Yard trash: Pick up on Mondays*. Must to be placed on the asphalt (not on the grass in the tree wells or one the sidewalk) or the city will not pick it up. Garbage Bins: Pick up on Tuesdays*. Per ordinance, bins can be placed on the street after 6 pm the night before and must be taken off the street by 6 pm the day of pickup. Recycle Bins: Pick up every other Wednesday*. Check out https://www.charlestoncounty.org/ to verify your pickup date or if they miss your pick up you can call (843) 720-7111 or email them at recycle@charlestoncounty.org
Note that only commercial businesses have recycle bin pickup every Monday.
Maintenance of Street Tree Wells: in front of your property is the owners responsibility. Property owners need to maintain the grass area between their property and the street curb. The city of Charleston does not provide maintenance.
Street Light Outage Reporting: You can select the pole # or put in an address and select the pole # with the light failure close to the address selected. With this outage reporting, it enters an order in the Dominion outage system and sends it to the appropriate truck typically the next day. Reporting of Livability, B.A.R and Zoning Violations: All violations (garbage & recycle bins left out, street dump outs, non- permitted renovations/repairs, etc.) should be reported online through the Citizens Support Center here. Create an account, select the issue topic, then fill out the form with street address, description of issue, and video or images.

Downtown Charleston Bike & Pedestrian Improvements Project: Information on plans for improved pedestrian and cyclist safety including high visibility crosswalks, improved ramps, leading pedestrian intervals at traffic lights, new pavement markings, bike facilities, and more. Major items of note include two way cycle conversion on St. Philip below Calhoun St and “pedestrian scrambles” at Calhoun, Coming and St. Philip Streets.
